Coping with Brain Injury

A brain injury—whether from a stroke, concussion, traumatic brain injury (TBI), or other acquired brain injury (ABI)—can change the way you experience yourself and the world. You might struggle with emotional ups and downs, cognitive challenges, memory issues, or changes in relationships. It’s common to feel a loss of independence or experience frustration, grief, or shifts in identity as you adjust to life after an injury. These changes can feel overwhelming, and it’s normal to wonder what comes next.

I provide a supportive space to process these challenges and navigate life after brain injury. Before becoming a counselor, I worked as a Recreational Therapist in medical and rehabilitation settings, supporting individuals and families recovering from TBI, stroke, and post-concussion syndrome. I witnessed the challenges of managing medical complications, adapting to executive functioning difficulties, coping with sensory overload, and rebuilding confidence in daily life. I also worked with individuals in their homes and communities as they transitioned back into their routines—adapting to family stressors, returning to work or school, and reclaiming hobbies and interests.

Now, as a therapist, I bring this experience into my work by supporting individuals who are seeking to better understand their experiences, manage emotional and cognitive changes, improve relationships, and reconnect with their sense of self. Whether you’re navigating mood swings, anxiety, depression, brain fog, or social isolation, therapy can provide strategies to help you move forward.

You don’t have to figure this out alone—I’m here to help. Using a blend of trauma-informed therapy, mindfulness, and skill-building approaches, we’ll work together to build resilience and adapt to the changes while honoring the person you are.
